The following survey shows the sources of student income for those aged under 26 in higher education in the United Kingdom over a ten-year period from 1988 to 1999. The information is came from Department for Education and Employment.

For Student loan, there was a substantial increase from 0% in 1989 to 24% in 1999. At the same time, we can observe that the grant from government funding fell down by sharply from 38% to 14%. However, at the same time, there was also a large decline of parental contribution from 32% to 16% over the decade.

Besides, the percentage of earnings of student income grew slightly to make up 12% of total earnings in 1999. Similarly, sources of student income went up from 24% to 34% for other sources slowly.
